Handy tools (general hand tools) are essential supplies on every merchant ship for routine maintenance, repairs, and emergency fixes in the engine room, deck, and workshop areas.

They enable the crew to perform daily tasks like tightening fasteners, cutting, measuring, and disassembling equipment without relying solely on specialized or power tools.

Common handy tools supplied on board include screwdrivers (flat & Phillips), adjustable wrenches, pliers, hammers, hacksaws, chisels, files, measuring tapes, and Allen keys — usually stored in corrosion-resistant toolboxes.
